Year 10 Trip to University of Oxford

A group of our aspirant Oxbridge students got the chance to visit the University of Oxford; here is one students report on the trip.

"On 13th June, eleven Year 10 students and I were given the opportunity to visit Oxford University. Upon arrival at Merton College, one of the oldest colleges at the University, we listened to a presentation in a lecture theatre. We learnt about many aspects of the University, including daily life at Oxford, the application process, and the teaching methods that make Oxford such a prestigious university.

Then, two students took us on a tour of the college, which really helped us to picture what it would be like to live and study at Oxford. The students shared with us unique traditions and stories behind parts of the college. My favourite was how every year at 2am on the night that the clocks go back, all 300 or so students meet in the main courtyard and walk backwards for an hour!

We'd all brought packed lunches, but were offered a free lunch in the ancient dining hall, which had lots of character and was full of undergraduates.

In the afternoon, we visited the Oxford University Museum of Natural History, which contained a massive collection of exhibits (including ancient fossils, skeletons and live insects). Lara, Jasmine and Dan were brave enough to hold a live, giant cockroach.

We all found the experience very enjoyable, eye-opening and useful, as it provided us with a real sense of the character of Oxford, and what it would be like to study there."
