Music Production Workshop 2019

Music Production for Highcliffe and Ballard Musicians

We were pleased to welcome Ballard school music students to a joint workshop along with Highcliffe budding musicians to learn the fundamentals of Music Production. The session involved a presentation by Dan Francis from the music exam board RSL who gave an overview of the content for each of the graded exams in Music Production that are on offer. This was followed by an interactive workshop where each student got to experience the creative power of the Digital Audio Workstation in Highcliffe’s Music Production suite. We were also fortunate to have Dom Sigalas, an established producer who now works for Steinberg, to show us several tricks of the trade.

Music Production is becoming increasingly relevant in education as technology rapidly advances and the entertainment and media industry grows apace. The blend of science, technology and creativity in Music Production enables students wishing to pursue a career in the industry to learn how to be versatile, resourceful and imaginative in an environment that is constantly evolving.

After the session students had the opportunity to sign up for our next Music Production exam course which we will run in the summer term. Those preparing for GCSE music next year will have the opportunity to gain a graded exam and arm themselves with music-making skills in preparation for the first composition coursework assignment in year 10.
