Music Production and Bournemouth University

Our GCSE Music students have a visitor from Music Production team at Bournemouth University

Year 10 and 11 Music Production students enjoyed a visit from Bournemouth University Faculty of Science and Technology today. Dr Panos Amelidis, a Lecturer in Audio and Music Technology, gave a presentation on the nature of study at university and the Music Production pathways available.

The Bachelor Degree in Music and Sound Production was explained in detail and the links with Industry that give an opportunity for networking were impressive. What was most interesting was the way in which the course has kept pace with the rapidly evolving developments in technology and how this is shaping the Industry of the future. For example, current 3rd year students are innovating the use of new interfaces such as VR (Virtual Reality) with the most advanced technology to create and produce music to be experienced and shared in new and exciting ways.

It was impressed upon us that traditional forms of learning music production, studio engineering etc., are only one aspect of formal education and that to succeed in the future industry music producers will need to have the skill of flexibility, to adapt and apply their knowledge in new situations and train for jobs that do not yet exist.

The visit ended with an exclusive invite for Highcliffe Music Production students to attend a personalised and hands-on tour of the production facilities at the University – an opportunity that we will embark on later this year.
