Art and Design A Level students have finished their ‘Independent Project’ which they have been working on for around 8 months. The personal investigation phase of the A Level allows students to develop as artists and designers and follow a line of enquiry that is self-driven and developmental in where they see themselves. This year, we have particularly strong field of students who are becoming very established in their genre, from: Fashion Photographers, Textile and Graphic Designers, Sculptors, Ceramicists, Illustrators and Painters.

On the 20th of February, students were given the opportunity to celebrate their work with family, friends, teachers, governors and neighbours from the local community. The Private View of the ‘Celebration of Work Exhibition’ was a huge success, with a constant flow of proud parents and teachers taking a real interest in the individual concepts behind the work. The A Level students are now working on a new journey as they complete preparatory work towards their exam, which will take place in May, where they will then conclude their course.

Many of our students will further their education in Art and Design at the Arts University Bournemouth. On the 6th of March 2018, 11 students had interviews here in the Da Vinci with the Head of the Foundation Course, where they again had the opportunity to discuss their work and future aspirations within the Art and Design industry.  Students were nervous, as to be expected, but as always did themselves proud and the feedback was very complimentary about the standard of work and their mature attitudes of all students. Due to the high calibre of student applications from Highcliffe School, we have had confirmation that all 11 students have been offered a place on the Foundation Course starting in September 2018 - which is fantastic news and excellent progression for our Art and Design students.
