A Medics Lunch

Our Year 13 Medic students met up to discuss the application process

Our Aspiring Medics Programme moved up a gear recently for Year 13 students. The University application deadline was comfortably met by all involved and there has been a recent period of calm before the interview season starts.

This year applications have been made to;
• Oxford
• Cardiff
• Southampton
• Bristol

There has been some excellent interview news already and we are now eagerly awaiting further invitations to interview.

We are currently in the mock interview programme. Our students are in a very fortunate position because we are joined in this preparation work by Professor Vincent May, formerly of Bournemouth University and Associate Professor Bill Brocklesby from The University of Southampton.

The preparation work includes;
• formal interview panel procedures
• the MMI interview technique
• the artefact interview technique that is used commonly in Oxbridge interviews and applications to study Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science

Our Year 12 students are looking forwards to their preparatory work during the spring and summer terms where their UCAS personal statements start to take shape and they continue with their work shadowing, placements and voluntary work. As part of their academic study programme they have also recently spent time in Pathology, Bio Medical Imaging and the ‘Life Lab’ at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.

Year 11 students, your opportunities are next; keep up the good work with your GCSE studies!
