Jubilee Kitchen opens and legacy goes on

On Monday the 19th of June we were delighted to host the Rotary Club of Highcliffe to the school for the official opening of the new Jubilee Centre Kitchen area.

Mike Bugler who was a member of the Rotary club in Highcliffe before his passing has always been an amazing support to the school and when he sadly passed away he left an amount of money to be invested in a facility or project at the school for disadvantaged students.  After discussions a project was put forward to install a small kitchen in the Jubilee Centre and with additional donations from the Rotary club the project (and official opening meal) was fully funded for the school.

The Jubilee Centre is housed in the original Caretaker’s house at the School and was first opened in September 2015. It provides a facility that is used to support students who are returning to school after events or challenges that have resulted in long term absence or for those students who require a bespoke curriculum plan to support their education and subsequent life chances.

The need for a kitchen to be developed came about recognising that some students come to school without breakfast as well as needing refreshment during the day.  It also provides a key area to allow some students to develop their own personal skills around making their own breakfast, snacks and hot drinks.  Since the kitchen was installed during the Easter break, it has been providing food for some students before their formal GCSE examinations, which has provided a real benefit to student exam preparation.

The official opening culminated in a celebration meal hosted at the school, fully prepared, cooked and served by a group of Year 9 students – all agreed this was of a significantly high quality and the service was exceptional.

During coffee, the visitors were treated to excellent presentations from Zoe and Annie from the Sixth Form based on the Extended Project Qualifications, which were exceptionally well presented and detailed - impressing all significantly!

As a school we would like to thank the Bugler family for the kind donation and especially the work carried out by Mike Bugler…… the kitchen will continue his legacy at Highcliffe and make a significant impact on many students in the future.

Dave Foot, from Highcliffe Rotary said “It was an excellent evening with both the opening of the Jubilee Kitchen and the School Dinner.”
