Tales of a Globetrotting Doctor

Thursday 19 January 7.00pm - Dr Iain Nicholson

Dr. Iain Nicholson qualified as a doctor at Guys Hospital in 1971. Instead of following his father into General Practice, Dr Nicholson spent his career working in East Africa, Australia, Hong Kong, and latterly Saudi Arabia, where he was Head of Accident and Emergency in a busy hospital looking after the employees of an American / Saudi oil company. Now retired and living in Bournemouth, he will talk about his experience working abroad, and recall a few anecdotes from his varied career.


Celebrity Catering

Thursday 26 January 7.00pm - Sarah Ali Choudhury Sarah is an experienced Indian chef based in Bournemouth and the founder of “Sarah Ali Easy Curry”. You may have seen Sarah successfully competing in a cooking reality show My Kitchen Rules aired on Channel 4 which started in October 2016. Part of Sarah’s talk will be about her passion for food as well as the skills you need to learn to succeed in this environment. She will share insights into her career path as a celebrity chef, the challenges she has faced and the triumphs she has enjoyed.


Civil Engineering

Thursday 2 February 7.00pm - Konrad Michael Grossey BSc (hons) CEng MICE MIEI MIHT MIAT

Konrad is a Chartered Civil Engineer with more than 30 years’ experience in the construction industry and in particular, the development, design and implementation of major transportation projects worldwide. He is currently Director of International Highways with Mott MacDonald who are one of the largest Consulting Engineering firms in the world with 16,000 staff and turnover in excess of £1 billion. He has found a career in Civil Engineering particularly rewarding, having been given the opportunity to travel and work with colleagues from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures. Most importantly he values making a real contribution to help improve the wellbeing and livelihoods of people and communities.


NHS Opportunities

Thursday 2 March 7.00pm - Joanne Nemes

Joanne Nemes has been working in the NHS as a Cardiac Physiologist for nearly 30 years. Find out more about how health care specialists identify, monitor and treat the presence of heart and lung disease on a daily basis. Joanne will also talk about what she enjoys about her role and the various career pathways available within the NHS.


A Forgotten Expedition

Thursday 16 March 7.00pm - Sir Henry Feilden Bt

Sir Henry, a descendant of one of the expedition’s leaders, Colonel Henry Wemyss Feilden, will talk about HMS Alert’s perilous voyage towards the North Pole in 1875. Find out about how 120 officers and men fared, having been trapped in the ice for 6 months! It’s a moving and personal tale of great heroism and bravery. It’s a story typical of its time, when the British Empire was at its height. See photographs that have never been shown before, in addition to many original artefacts, Sir Henry was recently on Channel 4 in the television programme Come Dine With Me.
