STEM soap and bath bomb workshop. | Highcliffe School

STEM soap and bath bomb workshop.

On Tuesday 13th December, 34 Year 7 students worked in collaboration with Bournemouth University (BU) ambassadors to create their own cosmetic business as part of our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) programme.

Crafting their own soaps and bath bombs was just part of the fun. Students participated in a workshop where they formed their own cosmetic company. Students learnt about how soap works, that the cosmetic industry is a great example of how science is intrinsic to business and that their career options are much broader than they might have thought. Students needed to utilise their creative and teamwork skills to construct the perfect packaging and business brand. The knowledge learnt, along with their skills, had to be put into practice when pupils presented their business pitch to the rest of the class and STEM ambassadors from Bournemouth University. Prizes were awarded to the best two companies acknowledging the presentation skills and reasoning of the students. Alan Sugar had better watch out!

The outcomes were superb and the BU ambassadors commented on the creativity and flair which our students demonstrated. Their questioning and ability to field questions from the floor were of a very high standard.
