Highcliffe student appears in French pop video

Emily Hyland, who attended the Highcliffe Battlefield trip in July last year, was asked by a French production company to read names of the fallen at the Thiepval Memorial.

Year 10 student, Emily Hyland, who took part in the joint history and French Battlefield trip in July has found fame in France through her appearance in a French pop video. The group visited the Thiepval Memorial, which commemorates some 72,000 missing British Empire servicemen who died in the Battles of the Somme. Whilst touring the site we were approached by a French production team who asked Emily to read the names of fallen soldiers from the monument. Emily’s voice can be heard in the pop video by French singer, Sue Lia, for the song Se batter pour elle. The song is based on the final poem of Irish MP, Thomas Kettle, who was killed at the Somme. The Highcliffe students also paid their respects to the fallen by laying a wreath at the memorial.
