Digital Wave IT Conference | Highcliffe School

Digital Wave IT Conference

The school was personally invited to the Digital Wave event by ex Highcliffe Sixth student Liam Walls

Liam currently works as a front end developer for the company RedWeb, who were  responsible for running the Digital Wave event.  The conference aims to give students an insight into degree, college, apprenticeship and career opportunities within the IT industry. This year, we took 15 Sixth Formers and 5 Year 11 students, however judging by their response we will be taking an awful lot more students next year.

A student’s account of the day follows:

The digital wave expedition was an excellent opportunity to broaden our ever expanding knowledge of IT and the technological shift. We were able to listen to a wide range of speakers from different companies who let us know about the future of the industry and possible career paths.

It was an amazing experience learning about how people from different backgrounds can reach the top level in their sector.  It showed us that anyone can make it with or without qualifications, if you only have the ambition and put effort in.
After a few guest speeches we had the opportunity to walk around stalls that let us get hands on with the latest innovative technology and view potential future ideas a range of companies had.

Whilst we were walking around the in the breaks, we were approached by certain people to talk to us about our future career choices and they gave us excellent personal advice after listening to our individual preferences.
