Year 8 Trip to the Jewish Museum London

Earlier this term nearly 50 history students from Year 8 had the privilege to meet a Holocaust survivor.

The students were also able to explore the lives of Jews in Germany and the surrounding countries and valued being given the chance to handle artefacts such as a Star of David which Jews were forced to wear on their clothing.

But the most moving part of their visit was to hear Mala Tribich who survived life in the ghetto and in Bergen– Belson, the same concentration camp that Anne Frank was placed in. She spoke of the fact that she was very lucky not to have been taken from the ghetto to the woods and shot like many of the children. Instead, on that day, she argued with the guard and was allowed back in the ghetto. Only Mala and her brother would survive the war as she lost her mother, father, and sister as well. Students commented that this encounter with Mala really brought the darker side of history alive and enhanced their study of The Holocaust.
