Lands' End to John O’Groats 2016 Fundraiser

Highcliffe teacher Mr Simmons is raising money for three charities, driving from Lands’ End to John O’Groats.

Mr Simmons is raising money by accepting donations for three charities by joining a convoy of over 200 Land Rovers travelling from Lands’ End to John O’Groats. The charities being supported are the RNLI, UK Homes 4 Heroes and the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity. Donations can be placed in the charity collection pots, of which one can be found in the main school reception area. The charity convoy will take 4 days to travel the distance of 838 miles (1,349km) due to the restricted top speeds of some of the vintage Land Rovers taking part. It has also been communicated that there may be a BBC film crew joining the convoy for part of the event.

An attempt to break a world record will also be made as part of the fundraising, taking place from the 27th to the 31st July, 2016.  The world record for the most privately owned Land Rovers collected in one place at any time, currently stands at 516 vehicles. It is hoped that more Land Rovers will join the end stage of the convoy, at an unused ex RAF airfield in Scotland, where the attempt to break the world record will be held.  A target of over 600 Land Rovers vehicles is hoped for.

If anyone is interested in joining in with the event in their own Land Rover vehicle, there is still time to register at www.landroverconvoy2016.com with a ticket purchase costing £20. This goes directly into the charities fund pot which currently stands at over £4000 at the time of writing. All details of the event can be found on the website link.  Mr Simmons would like to thank in advance, all those staff, students, parents and wider community who are able to donate to this fundraising event.
