Primary Languages Festival 2016 | Highcliffe School

Primary Languages Festival 2016

A wide range of languages have been taught in all of our primary feeder schools for some years now.

This year, students have been learning French, Spanish, German and Mandarin. Many pupils are now able to sing songs, read stories, remember finger rhymes and write some really good sentences in the foreign language that they are studying.

The MFL department at Highcliffe supports our primary feeder schools in a number of ways ranging from teaching lessons at the primary schools to training primary colleagues and supporting them with planning schemes of work.

All this excellent language learning was showcased earlier in March with the sixth Highcliffe Primary Languages Festival:

  • A group of Year 6 students from Highcliffe St Mark put together a presentation about their coloured animals in Spanish, ¿Tienes animals?, which they largely wrote themselves.
  • Pupils from classes 3 and 4 at Tiptoe performed ¿Dónde está Wally?(Where’s Wally?) and a short presentation entitled “La silla está en la chimenea” (the chair is on the chimney) in Spanish.
  • A group of younger pupils from Hordle performed “Pierre et Monsieur le Bonhomme de Neige”in French, a story about a snowman.
  • A Group of Highcliffe Year 7 students performed “Là, où j’habite” describing the areas where they live and what you will find there, in French.

We look forward to welcoming some of these students at Highcliffe School next year and wish the others all the best for their future language studies.
