Staying Safe Online

Year 7 and 8 students were treated to an Internet safety presentation with a difference last week.

Singer/songwriter Rich Cottell took time out of his busy schedule promoting his new album to perform and share his thoughts on Internet Safety, a topic which is very close to his heart. Rich, who was born in Devon, has worked with the likes of major artists including The Wanted and Conor Maynard.

Rich, whose family member has fallen victim to cyber bullying, performed for the students before speaking to them about keeping safe online. As an ambassador for an anti-bullying charity, he discussed the potential risks of social media, following up with ways to avoid and tackle problems linked to online bullying. He also spoke about the importance of privacy settings on social media accounts and how to report cyber bullying and posts if pupils feel uncomfortable about them.
