On Tuesday 15th And Wednesday 16th March, our South West enterprise champions travelled to London for the Coca Cola Real Business National Final. After an early start, the team arrived in London and made their way to the hotel, next to the London Eye.
The teams’ first engagement was a winners’ reception on the Terrace at the Houses of Parliament. On the way, the team enjoyed a walk across Westminster Bridge, encountering both a giant panda and the donkey from Shrek!
At the reception, the teams had to sell their regional campaigns to the MPs present, including Chris Chope, MP for Christchurch East. The team enjoyed a nice selection of sandwiches and canapés before leaving for a tour of the House of Commons.
On Tuesday Evening, the team enjoyed Dinner at Hard Rock café, followed by the musical ‘Wicked’. The team were glad to get to bed, knowing that they were in for a busy day on Wednesday competing for the national title. Unfortunately the musical was not the last of their evening’s activities as at 1-00am the fire alarm went off, with all competing teams gathering outside, shocked and completely unprepared for the cold. Luckily, everyone was allowed to re-enter the hotel soon after, only for some students to then have to request a replacement room card.
The team arrived at 8 Northumberland, next to Trafalgar Square, excited by the challenge of the day ahead. Their brief was to create an innovative product from recycled plastics or aluminium. The team’s idea to develop personalised mobile phone covers was well thought out and cost effective. Their presentation was delivered with confidence and clarity.
Unfortunately it wasn’t placed in the top 3 teams but as always the team were a fantastic advertisement for Highcliffe and the South West and individually the team have undoubtedly gained so much from their experience of the real business challenge.
