Dance Power 2015

Five Highcliffe School Students joined a star-studded cast to perform in Dance Power 2015.

This is a Red Cross Fundraising Gala at The Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London in the presence of her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra.

After a 16 year break and reprising the original Dance Power show held in 1999, the aim of the event was to harness the power of dance as a universal language to bring some of the greatest stars of the dance world together whilst raising money and learning about the vital work carried out by the Red Cross internationally.

Cara Barton, Grace Bullard, Niamh Carlo, Jasmine Lunn and Shannon Packard, all students at Milton Academy of Dance, were among 80 young dancers from 5 dance schools brought together for the event from across Hampshire and London to form a dance group known as Dance Power Young Generation. The dancers performed ‘Dance With Me Tonight’ by Olly Murs, a specially choreographed piece by Anthony Van Laast MBE.

Attended by an audience of over 2000, organised and produced by former newsreader and British Red Cross Vice President Angela Rippon OBE, the event was hosted by Anton du Beke who also performed with dance partner Erin Boag.

Over 200 dancers performed at the event including ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ stars Aljaz Skorjanec, Janette Manrara, Ian Waite and Natalie Lowe, Diversity, the cast of West End hit musical STOMP, Zulu Drummers and the Royal Ballet amongst others.

The girls thoroughly enjoyed their starring roles in the West End and the opportunity to participate in raising money to enable the fantastic work undertaken by the largest humanitarian organisation on the planet.  The Red Cross has societies in 189 countries and provides aid and support to individuals and communities in crisis.

Everyone involved in the Event thoroughly enjoyed the evening which had a wonderful ‘feel good’ vibe throughout.
