KS3 Art at Highcliffe Castle | Highcliffe School

KS3 Art at Highcliffe Castle

On Tuesday 3rd February we held our yearly exhibition of Art, Design and Technology work produced by Key Stage 3 students.

The event was well supported and the work exhibited represented all areas of ‘Da Vinci’, illustrating the diverse range of experiences that students experience with us at Highcliffe School.

It is pertinent to note that in 2014, according to government figures, the creative industries were worth £71.4 billion to the UK economy.  They grew by 10% in 2012 and employ nearly 2 million people nationally.  This figure is even more impressive when you consider that equates to £8 million per hour.  Art, Design Technology offers a genuine future to our students in industries like Advertising, Marketing, Architecture, Photography, Museums, Product and Fashion Design, Galleries, Publishing, Film/TV and so on.

Staff in the subject area aim to inspire our young students, both to take risks in their work and to learn through experimentation.  Several projects have been developed this year to encourage more diverse responses and to develop much greater independence.  The outcomes at the Castle this year illustrated just how our young people respond to challenge and opportunity.  The skills they learn with us better equip them for the challenging world we live in.
