Shakespeare and Love

Our year 13 English Literature group have just returned from a wonderful day in Stratford upon Avon.

Students and teaching staff visited Shakespeare’s birthplace, where the guides were highly informative and amusing. We walked on the very same stone floor Shakespeare would have walked on and touched stone from the market place where he might have sat! The group also attended a study day at the Shakespeare Study Centre on “Shakespeare and Love”, which is part of the students’ A Level course. The lecturers were excellent: they made the students feel confident by bringing out what they already knew and extending their knowledge in very engaging and thoughtful ways, using some of the many resources in their collection.

Here are some of the students’ comments:
“It was a very enjoyable day, very informative and insightful. I would recommend it to any students studying Shakespeare.”
“Walking in Shakespeare’s footsteps was incredible…Learning about Shakespeare’s    work in his birthplace gave everything more context.”
“The speaker made many interesting points which I had not previously considered.”
“I learned a huge amount and my knowledge of Shakespeare has deepened…… a great day!”
“A long drive there and back, but well worth it!  The day was exceptionally informative and thoroughly enjoyable.  There was so much Shakespeare that I felt I was reliving his very thoughts and ideas.”

We would like to extend our thanks to all who made this day possible. The only suggestion made by students was that it would have been terrific to see a performance too and we hope to do this later in the academic year.
