My Money Week 2014

Year 9 students have been learning more about money in PWL lessons as part of the sixth annual ‘My Money Week’, run by financial education charity pfeg (Personal Finance Education Group).

The aim of My Money Week, which officially runs from 9th to 15th June, is to give students across the country a head-start in learning about money and personal finance through fun and engaging activities. It is designed to improve young people’s financial skills, knowledge and confidence through special lessons, activities and discussions. Year 9’s have been given budgeting challenges, had discussions about essential and non-essential spending, they have looked at payslips and the issue of debt.

Tracey Bleakley, pfeg chief executive, said:
“We are delighted that Highcliffe students are joining the hundreds of thousands of young people across the country taking part in My Money Week this year. Financial education is absolutely essential if we are to give young people the best possible start in life, equipping them with the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to be able to manage their money well.”

Since the first My Money Week in 2009, millions of young people have been helped to understand more about money and personal finance through focused activities in schools. The Preparation for Working Life lessons in Year 9 and 10 allow dedicated curriculum time for personal finance and other life skills that are an essential part of a student’s learning.
