Linguistics Olympiad

Congratulations to Jamie Adams in Year 12, who has just been awarded a bronze certificate in the UK Linguistics Olympiad Advanced Level, which has put him in the top 20% of pupils nationally.

The UKLO examination is particularly challenging with complicated linguistics questions on obscure languages. These can include languages such as Lontara, a language spoken in the Sulawesi or Kairak, a language spoken by 750 people on the New Guinea Islands, off the Papua New Guinea Mainland. The Advanced Level test can be found here.

The vast majority of entrants to the Olympiad are from selective or independent schools. Many congratulations should also go to Jack Gale in Year 9 and James Moses in Year 8 who both performed very well in the non-certificated Foundation Level and will certainly be future contestants for the Advanced Level.
