Biology trip to Southampton General Hospital

Year 12 Biology students got the unique opportunity to investigate the inner workings of several key departments of Southampton General Hospital.

Here are some thoughts from the day:

‘I really loved the trip, it was so interesting to learn about all the research behind what happens in a hospital. The day really gave me the opportunity to see the other side to the hospital and how people other than doctors and nurses use science to help contribute to the care of patients.’

‘It was fascinating to see how the hospital produced slides for their microscopes from the body parts of their patients, I never realised how expensive hospital equipment could be, especially to make something so small!’

‘I felt like I got a real insight into science in practice, learning about new technology and processes gave me a glimpse at a couple of potential careers. As well as all of that the life lab we took part in was brilliant because I actually got to learn about my own body and how it works!’

‘Great experience and a unique opportunity, I am so glad I got to go!’
