Excellence in Mathematics

Great news just in that the Mathematics subject area has been awarded a grant by the National Centre of Excellence in the teaching of Mathematics (NCETM).

This makes Highcliffe the first Dorset school to achieve funding for a project under this scheme. The money will be used to fund work that involves students from KS1 all the way through to KS5. We will be working with our primary feeder schools and with Heidi Witney, the Dorset Mathematics consultant. We will be working together to look at topics that students find challenging at all levels and how collaboration and cross school planning can help improve understanding. As the project develops we will be bringing you news of its progress.

Whilst we are on the subject of excellence in Maths - a big well done to Year 11 for their recent GCSE Mathematics examinations. The students involved were focused, organised with the correct equipment and well prepared for the examinations and we wish them the very best in their results on the 9th January. Year 11 students have the opportunity of improving their grade in June where they can retake the Linear GCSE. Students are now starting extension and project tasks with an emphasis on real life Mathematics.
