Death stalks Year 7 students in GL2

A black clad figure clutching a scythe was spotted approaching GL2 where unsuspecting Year 7 students were having a History lesson.

To the horror of the class teacher the figure entered the room - and by the time he left 1 in 3 students were no more!

Panic not however, the Grim Reaper made his appearance to illustrate to the class how quickly the Black Death struck and just how many of the population fell victim. 1 in 3 people in the UK were killed by the Black Death and across Europe 25 million died.

Students were shown a powerpoint with wonderful sound effects such as the:
• death screams of the victims,
• cracking of whips as people whipped their flesh so as to punish themselves before God punished them by giving them the plague,
• crackle of fire as bodies were burnt to prevent the disease spreading.

All exciting and gruesome stuff that ensured the students gave their full attention and learnt a great deal about how the Black Death spread through the UK and about the misguided thoughts of the population on where it had come from. The cures were a source of amusement, our favourite being the one below
• Take a live frog
• Place it belly down over the swelling buboe (pus filled sore the size of an egg)
• Bind frog in place
• Frog will absorb poison, swell and BURST
• Continue treatment using further frogs until creatures cease to swell and explode
