After Juliet

As part of their final major project, BTEC students from Stanmore College, Middlesex performed the play ‘After Juliet’ for both our Year 12 BTEC Acting group and our Year 10 Expressive Arts students.

Intended as a sequel to ‘Romeo and Juliet’ the acclaimed play explores the impact of the deaths and actions of the eponymous ‘star crossed lovers’ upon those closest to them and combines both Shakespearean and contemporary language.

Traverse staging was used for the performance which had the effect of making the audience feel part of the action and afforded the cast a variety of exits and entrances.

The play was particularly useful for our Year 10 Expressive Arts students who are exploring ‘Romeo and Juliet’, ‘West Side Story’  and ‘Noughts and Crosses’ for their forthcoming practical examination but it also gave our BTEC group myriad ideas in relation to staging, costuming, use of props and acting styles.

The students from Stanmore College were very grateful for the opportunity to perform for such a receptive and respectful audience who all thoroughly enjoyed the performance.
