Smiling in Bailen

The link with the Spanish school IES Hermanos Revilla Medina is now firmly established and in February the latest group of Highcliffe students paid our partners there a visit. Here is a report from Year 9 student Kathryn:

Early in the morning of Friday, 3rd February a group of us from years 9 and 12 (and Mr Wayth and Mrs Snell) set off for sunny Spain! We were all really excited – it seemed ages since we’d first met our Spanish partners in England last June- and now the day for our visit had finally arrived!

We flew from Bournemouth and arrived at Malaga airport at midday. We then had a long coach journey through mountains and olive groves before we finally met our Spanish partners at their school. Everyone was really happy to see each other again! When I got to my exchange partner Mamen’s house we set straight off to go shopping! I know I should have felt tired after travelling since 4 am, but it was just so exciting to be in Spain and the shops were calling! The next few days we spent with our Spanish families- mine even took me to Cordoba zoo! On the Saturday we all met up in Linares to go bowling, which was great fun!
On Monday everybody went to Cordoba to see the amazing Cathedral. We were also free to check out the Cordoba shopping centre!

Then on the Tuesday we went to school with our partners and joined in with lessons. The school we went to is called IES Hermanos Medina Rivilla.
On Wednesday we went to see the Alhambra in Granada- a beautiful palace complex built during the mid 14th century by the Moors. The view at the top of the Alhambra was spectacular! Afterwards we went to a shopping centre in Granada and we had the whole place to ourselves!

On Thursday we went to school again and then we had a flamenco lesson! The local radio station came to report about it and I got interviewed! Afterwards we all packed very hurriedly (nothing would fit in my case) and got ready for a farewell meal in Linares. How could it be our last night already? The time had gone so quickly!

The next morning we all said our goodbyes and everyone was really sad to be going home after such a brilliant week.  ¡Hasta pronto!
