Year 9 St Peters Rugby Tournament.

After going five games unbeaten the Highcliffe Year 9 rugby team went into the town tournament as strong contenders for the cup

However the boys soon realised this was not going to be plain sailing after failing to fire in their opening match, despite scoring first Highcliffe lost 10-5 to Ringwood. Needing to win in the next pool game to go through as runners up of the pool the team faced Bishop of Winchester next. The boys stepped up to the challenge and produced a devastating display to win 25-0 with Marley C scoring ‘for fun’ and helped by superb rucking by the forwards.

Semi finals now loomed, playing winners of the other pool; Arnewood. Another gear was found by Highcliffe and they found themselves camped in the Arnewood half. In spite of some strong defence work by Arnewood James went over in the corner for the 5-0 win.

The final was a rematch with Ringwood and time for revenge. Scott stepped up to the mark broking free from a maul to score first. Superb ball running (particularly by Ollie B-C), rucking (all the forwards) and tackles (notably George) helped to keep the pressure on and allow Scott to score a superb solo try for his second of the game. Ringwood came back to score but it was too late 10-5 to Highcliffe. ‘Champions and doughnuts all round!’
