Lily Waltham wins top prize!

Roche Court Educational Trust

It was with great pleasure that I was able to be present when Lily Waltham (Year 10) received her prize for her outstanding art and literary entry into a recent competition run by Roche Court Educational Trust. The competition required entrants to submit a poem of no more than 16 lines inspired by a piece of art.  There were over 250 entrants from all over the country and Lily achieved first place in the Senior Category receiving a cheque for £100!! Her work entitled ‘King of Elements’ was judged by two poets, Lemn Sissay and Kate Daudy who thought’ Lily’s writing showed much potential’. Lily’s work is currently being displayed in the Education Centre.

Lily’s art work was inspired from a photograph taken by her Grandfather, whereas many of the other entrants had based their work from the Roche Court Sculpture Park itself. Lily and her family were invited to a prize giving on Saturday 12th November 2011 at Roche Court, near Salisbury, where she received her prize from a member of the Arts Council. The prize giving coincided with the opening of the new exhibition; ‘Victor Passmore from Construction to Spray Paint’.
