Highcliffe maths department hold Christmaths event for talented Year 5 mathematicians
On Monday 3rd December Highcliffe School warmly welcomed 40 gifted Mathematicians from our feeder primary schools, along with their parents, for an evening of Christmas themed mathematical problems.
After an introductory presentation was delivered by the Maths team, which made us all think, students were put into groups and spent 10 minutes on each carousel activity. These ranged from Measuring Rudolph’s Medicine, Christmas Tree Origami, Maths magic trick and gift or no gift to name but a few.
Parents were encouraged to solve their own puzzles whilst their son or daughter worked at their various stations. It was brilliant to see the determination on the faces and the competitive edge setting in! Meanwhile, the students impressed us all with their Mathematical problem solving and eagerness to give everything a go.
We cannot wait for them to join us in Year 7 in a couple of years! Thank you very much to all the parents who came along to support their children, and many thanks to the Maths Department for organising such a fun and interactive evening!
