Equestrian Success for Megan, Tom and Joe

In June Tom and Megan Pink, who ride as part of West Hants Pony Club along with their teammates, became successful in securing a place at the Horse of the Year Show

Two hundred and fifty teams started out, trying to gain one of the six available team places at the show. West Hants made it last year so it was a huge achievement for them to be successful a second time around.

The Horse of the Year Show took place last week and the team returned triumphant! It was a brilliant competition for all six teams, all trying their hardest to win the Prince Phillip Cup.

Only the top four teams are able compete in the final on the Sunday night. West Hants qualified in first place with a seven-point lead, the points are then doubled in the final to make it more exciting for the crowds and us.

We are hugely proud to say that West Hants Pony Club are the Prince Phillip Cup Champions of 2018.The competition was won by an impressive ten point lead! What a wonderful achievement!

Whilst at the show they were also competing for another cup called the “Stable Cup”.

This cup is judged by independent officials from pony club headquarters where they look at the care of the ponies, how the tack room is kept, manners of the children in the team as well as in the icebreaker entertainment on the Tuesday night that all teams must complete.

There are also spot checks inspections throughout the week from top show-jumpers and royal artillery. These scores are then used to make a final decision. Having won last year they knew it would be doubly hard this year to achieve this one, but they  managed to bring home the ‘Stable Cup’ again this year!

As well as success with the West Hants Pony Club, Megan and Tom have had a lot of individual success too.

Megan was selected in May to ride for England at the European Championships in France. She and her teammates had an exciting time competing against teams from France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Scotland, Ireland, Switzerland and Wales. They won the competition with a thirty three point lead and are now the Under 12 - European Champions.

Megan and her partner Katie, took part in the British Pairs Competition in Newark. It was a tough competition with the top riders from around Great Britain taking part. Megan and Katie took it in all in their stride and after some strong competition became Under 12 - British Pairs Champions.

Joe was selected in May to ride for England at the World Team Championships in Belgium. There where many highs and lows over the week but the team all pulled together and became the Under 17 Reserve World Champions. We competed against teams from Australia, New Zealand, America, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Denmark and Austria.
